I am a self taught photographer. I have been taking pictures since I was a child and I've been doing freelance photography for the past seven years. Currently I am working with individual clients as well as freelancing to magazines and modeling agencies.
It seems like most every-day people prefer to just look at the camera and smile. In my opinion there is nothing "deeper" in these shots that make you think. I enjoy capturing substance, emotion and unusualness. Not just someone smiling at the camera. I'm a photographer true at heart. There is so much beauty in the world and it breaks my heart not to be able to capture it.
I came across the word Tathātā after I began studying Buddhism. I realized that it is Tathātā that I've always felt. It is this view of the world that has me desiring to capture those beautiful moments with photography, i.e. Beauty By Photography.
Tathātā is often best revealed in the seemingly mundane or meaningless, such as noticing the way the wind blows through a field of grass, or watching someone's face light up as they smile. The Buddha asked his disciples, "How long is a human life? Life is but a breath" Tathātā is the moment we recognize that reality is wondrously beautiful but also that its patterns are fragile and passing.
The Thiền master Thích Nhất Hạnh wrote, "People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child--our own two eyes. All is a miracle."
